Happy Apple Day to all! For those who aren’t Apple fans, the big brand announces a new line of products every September that set the standard for smartphones, smart watches and much more.
We caught up with the live event and grabbed the highlights for the biggest devices arriving in stores this fall to help keep you informed – and help to decide whether you’ll be upgrading or not. Let’s get into it!
The New iPhone 14 Lineup
It wouldn’t be a fall Apple Event without the release of a brand-new family iPhones. The iPhone 14 line has been rumored to be the biggest iPhone upgrade yet with improved emergency satellite features, a new top notch and much more. The following are the specs to help you decide if you’re ready to upgrade to the latest and greatest.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
The wait is over, and the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 plus are here to stay. While Apple said farewell to its SE line, the new 14 and 14 Plus remain a solid lower-priced option for those who don’t need all the bells and whistles of the Pro line.
Both new models include a variety of exciting enhanced and newly added features, included a new workout summary app, an updated internal design to help thermal factors for those who game, an enhanced XDR display and much more.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature the same Apple A15 Bionic Chip as the iPhone 13 series but this still improved performance and speed with up to 18% faster performance. These models provide all day battery life and an upgraded camera system with a photonic engine for better low-light photos. The new main 12MP camera has a larger sensor and faster aperture as well.
The new iPhone 14 is available with a 6.1 inch display and the iPhone 14 features a 6.7 inch display in five colors. The iPhone 14 will begin at $799 and the iPhone 14 Plus will begin at $899, available for preorder September 9th and released October 7th.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
Two words for everyone – Dynamic Island. This is the biggest interface upgrade to the brand-new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple said so long to the top notch on the screen and implemented a brand-new adaptive feature that will certainly change the game. This new notch shows alerts, background activity and apps such as calls, timer, music and more. It also features a proximity sensor behind its display.
While the lower priced models kept the A15 Bionic Chip, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max include the new A16 Bionic Chip which is built on a 4nm processor with over 16 billion transistors. In short: it’s really, really fast.
These models also include the new Photonic Engine of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, but with more advanced features. The Pro series include an incredible 48 MP main camera that includes ProRaw, a new camera image sensor. If you’re a photography enthusiast, it’s worth upgrading to one of the new iPhone 14 Pro models.
Another new and important feature to all iPhone 14 models is the satellite feature for off grid emergencies. This is crucial to those who may be exploring and find themselves in trouble, as the new feature will send an alert via satellite to first responders nearby. The new models also include a Crash Detection feature that uses sensors within the phone to detect a crash in most passenger vehicles and offer to alert your emergency contacts.
The new iPhone 14 Pro is available starting at $999 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is available starting at $1099 with preorder beginning September 9th and releasing September 16th.
AirPod Pro 2
The iPhone wasn’t the only product that had major updates as the new AirPod Pros made a big splash at this year’s Apple Event. The most notable enhancement is the new H2 chip that allows for better clarity and twice the noise cancellation. The new model includes new ear tip sizes, a new Touch Control, longer battery life with up to 6 hours of listening time, new locator features to find a lost case and a speaker on the actual case.
The new AirPod Pro 2 will be available September 23rd for $249
Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Ultra
For those who watched the Apple Event, we listened to a few very touching stories on how the Apple Watch saved the lives of several folks who found themselves in dire circumstances. The new emergency features seemed to be a theme across all Apple products for this fall, along with a few other major upgrades to the world’s favorite smart watch.
Apple Watch Series 8
The new Series 8 Apple Watch has a variety of enhanced and new features, including but not limited to a new always on display with narrow borders, new lunar astronomy and modular screens, swim proof, dust proof and crack resistance, fall detection, emergency SOS, sleep tracking, health sensors like ECG and blood oxygen levels and much more.
A groundbreaking new feature on the Apple Watch Series 8 is the temperature sensor to address an area of great importance – women’s health. Apple introduced cycle tracking a few years back, and the new temperature sensor offers ovulation estimates. These are delivered from overnight blood temperature readings taken every five seconds. This will help women to better understand their ovulation cycles and plays a role in family planning along with helping to note any cycle deviations.
The new Apple Watch Series 8 also includes enhanced crash detection that focuses on front impact, side impact, rear end collision and rollovers. An additional new feature is low power mode that allows for up to 36 hours of battery life.
The Apple Watch Series 8 starts at $399 and will be available in stores September 16th.
Apple Watch SE
Although the iPhone SE models have ended, Apple has kept the option available for the Apple Watch. This model is similar to the Series 8 with less of the advanced features. This makes it the perfect beginner smartwatch for those who want to start simple. It’s also a great option for families as kids can use the Apple Watch SE without having to tether it to an iPhone.
The Apple Watch SE will start at $249 and will be available September 16th.
Apple Watch Ultra
Whether you’re Bear Grylls or an adventure novice looking to explore, the Apple Watch Ultra is most certainly the new “it” gadget to have. This watch includes a completely new design built to face the elements with a larger screen, a titanium built case and new large action button for easier use. The Apple Watch Ultra has up to 60 hours of battery life and a new technical face. A stronger GPS and WR100 water resistance rating make for the most adventurous Apple Device yet. It is also EN13319 scuba certified for those who dive and include a new water feature that measures currents, depth and more.
The Apple Watch Ultra is available September 23rd for $799.
