Apple Event 2023: Wonderlust
Let's go over the brand new Apple devices and features to look forward to this fall.
Apple Watch Series 9
First to be announced was the brand new Apple Watch Series 9. The new watch line brings promising enhancements such as the new S9 custom chip, new watch faces, re-engineered gestures and a spiffy double-tap feature to assist with hands-free mobility.
The new Apple Watch Series 9 line also advanced dramatically in sustainability terms as part of Apple's promise to be completely carbon neutral by 2030. This watch series is Apple's very first carbon neutral product, which is manufactured utilizing 100% clean energy. During the event, Apple mentioned that this is just one of several products that they hope to place their Carbon Neutral badge on with hopes of future carbon neutral iPhone models as well.
The Apple Watch Series 9 is available for preorder today starting at $399 with first shipments beginning September 22nd, 2023.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
Last year, we saw the release of the most adventurous and rugged Apple Watch yet. This year brought the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the follow-up to Apple's first heavy-duty smartwatch. This model houses the same new S9 chipset as the Apple Watch Series 9, but includes more advanced features such as a more detailed display with tracking and geographical data that would get any explorer excited.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is available for preorder beginning today at $799, shipping out on September 22nd, 2023.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The one we've all been waiting for - the brand-new iPhone 15 models. The new base models of the popular smartphone line now host features that were previously reserved for Pro models. This includes the Dynamic Island, Apple's sleek screen notched announced at last year's event. Not only do the base and Plus models have the Dynamic Island, but they also have an exciting new automatic Portrait Mode and 4K video shooting capabilities.
A more expected change from whispers around the internet, it was confirmed that Apple is saying farewell to the lightning port and hello to the more universal USB-C charging port for faster charging and data transfer.
The iPhone 15 will be available starting at $799 for the 128GB model and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899 for the same capacity. Both are now open for preorder with an expected ship date on September 22nd.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
While the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus featured new pretty and light pastel colors, the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are making a different splash with a new Titanium casing. The new Pro models also feature a reengineered "Action" button, replacing the previous mute switch on the side of the device.
Don't let the new lighter casing fool you - the Pro models are packed with the powerful brand new A17 Bionic chipset. This new chipset's neural engine is twice as fast as previous models and offers more advanced technology for video features and gaming.
The camera system on the iPhone 15 Pro models features a much larger sensor for low-lit settings. Apple also introduced "nanoscale coating" technology to elevate the photo resolution and reduce lens flares.
The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max begins at $1199. Both models are available for preorder and will ship on September 22nd.
iOS 17
"Hey Siri" will soon be just "Siri"! Apple announced that iOS 17 will be available for all to download on September 18th for iPhone and iPadOS 17 for iPad. Another exciting new feature is a live voicemail transcript that appears on your lock screen as the voicemail is being recorded.
It's important to note that only iPhone models with the A12 Bionic Chip or later will be able to update their device to iOS 17.
