WHAT IS THE CHEAPEST IPHONE?
What Is the Cheapest iPhone?
When the iPhone® debuted in 2007, users could only choose between a 4GB or 8GB model. With a contract, the phone cost either $499 or $599. The latest model — the iPhone 12 Pro Max released in November 2020 — starts at $1,099. While it's normal for costs to rise over the decades, especially as technology becomes more advanced and refined, it's safe to say that buying a brand new iPhone is not always feasible.

Which iPhone Is the Best Value for the Money?
Though everyone's idea of affordable varies, these are some iPhones that may offer the best of both worlds— low prices and convenient features.
iPhone 7
When Apple released the iPhone 7 in 2016, it set users back about $550. At the time, the price was about average for smartphones — the Samsung Galaxy S7 was released the same year and cost $600. That's a far cry from the $1,000 to $2,000 iPhones of today. Today, you can find the iPhone 7 at third-party retailers for $150 to $280, depending on where you're shopping, the phone's specs and whether you're buying a refurbished model. Apple no longer produces iPhone 7s.
Keep in mind that, because it's nearly five years old, the iPhone 7 will not have the same camera quality, processing power or compatibility as recent models. However, you can upgrade it to today's iOS 14 operating system.
If you're looking for an iPhone because you want a reliable, brand name device that you can easily integrate with other Apple products, the iPhone 7 is a good phone, with features like the following:
Some carriers also require a one-time upgrading fee if you choose to get a new device before your current contract allows it. Most carrier contracts include upgrades every 12 or 24 months. Contact your carrier to learn more.
Prepaid and pay-as-you-go phones from carriers are not a part of a contract or upgrade plan. This freedom allows you to upgrade your phone any time you want, but expect to pay full retail price. However, some carriers have started offering new, premium devices on a monthly payment plan if you meet specific credit and income requirements.
IPHONE 8
Today, you can find it for anywhere from $300 to $450, depending on which model and storage variation you choose.
iPhone 8
The iPhone 8 was released two years after the iPhone 7, in 2018, and hit the market at about $700. Today, you can find it for anywhere from $300 to $450, depending on which model and storage variation you choose. Many people still have their original iPhone 8 and remain happy with its performance — especially since you can upgrade it to the latest iOS 14 releases. The iPhone 8 is similar to the earlier iPhone 7, but with a few improved battery features, body design and processing power.
If you've got a few hundred dollars to spend, the iPhone 8 offers the following:
iPhone 11
The iPhone 11 isn't as affordable as others on this list, but it's a good place to land if you want a new model for the lowest possible price. Upon release, the iPhone 11 started at $699, and you can still get it for around that price from the Apple website or third-party retailers because it's still in production. If you like the sound of the device, but it's too far beyond the budget, shop around for a refurbished or pre-owned device. Since it only came out in 2019, you should be able to find one in pretty good condition.
The iPhone 11 has these modern features:
iPhone XR
Apple released the simple, mid-range iPhone XR in 2018, and it's currently still for sale, starting at $499. That puts it somewhere between the price of the iPhone 8 and iPhone XS in price, offering many of the same features for a mix-and-match device. Though it's more expensive and not as powerful as the comparable iPhone SE that was released two years later, it still holds its own as a fun, easy-to-navigate mid-tier device for both entry-level and seasoned Apple fans. Fun fact — it's actually pronounced "ten-R" and not "ex-S."
The iPhone XR comes equipped with the following:
Though Apple released an iPhone SE in 2016, the 2020 second-generation successor offers far more value for the money.
iPhone SE 2020
Though Apple released an iPhone SE in 2016, the 2020 second-generation successor offers far more value for the money. The iPhone SE is still in active production, retailing at $399. If you like the camera power and performance speeds of the iPhone 11 but aren't sold on the sticker price, the iPhone SE is a fan-favorite for affordable compromise.
Check out these features:
iPhone XS
Apple released the iPhone XS in 2018 at a boggling $999 — a price that's only surprising when compared to the roughly $600 cost just two years later. The drastic drop wasn't due to a design flaw, but rather that Apple discontinued the device only one year after its release to make space for its upcoming lineup. Shop at third-party retailers and certified repaired iPhone distributors, and you're likely to snag it for a mid-range price. Like the XR, the "X" here is pronounced as "ten."
Though it's one of the more costly options on this list, the XS has the following:
